About the Artist
Susan Sugar’s entire career has been in the arts--from dance and theater, to architecture and painting. Her work has been shown at Lucky Street since l995. A highly disciplined painter, she lives in Key West in the summer and spends the rest of the year in Manhattan. She recently illustrated “The Essentials of Fabulous,” a guide to becoming superb. Each summer, Susan teaches a popular plein air workshop in key west during the solstice when the days are longest and the light, most compelling.
She is a regular at dawn and sunset at Higgs Beach and the White Street pier throughout the summer. Her delicate watercolors capture the mood of Key West during storms, at sunrise, and after twilight. Her widely collected oil paintings evoke Key West's dramatic skies and seas in twists and turns of pale color and energetic brushstroke. Her work is also featured in galleries in New York, Cape Cod, and the Hamptons.
